The prevalence of soft tissue injuries

Car collisions can cause the body to be jolted back and forth. This stretches the muscles, tendons, ligaments and other non-bony parts considered soft tissue. Anyone who has been in a car wreck in New Jersey will want to know the symptoms of soft tissue injury because getting prompt medical attention is essential to proper healing.

Soft tissue injuries usually lead to chronic pain, swelling and bleeding. Victims may also experience a diminished ability to move their neck. Since X-rays cannot detect these injuries, diagnosis can be difficult. It's also important to remember that symptoms do not always appear right after the accident. In fact, it may take days for them to manifest.

A common form of soft tissue injury is whiplash. This usually occurs when a rear-end collision causes the head to snap back and tear the tissues in the neck. The injured neck can experience stiffness, burning and shooting pains. Victims may also experience headaches, dizziness, bouts of memory loss and even conditions like depression and nervousness. In extreme cases, the joints may incur damage and discs in the spinal cord will become herniated.

When motor vehicle accidents arise from driver negligence, victims may be eligible for compensation. They can file a claim with the at-fault party's auto insurance company, asking to be reimbursed for medical care, vehicle repairs, lost wages and even physical and emotional trauma. This is where a lawyer comes in. Personal injury attorneys can have investigators, photographers and other experts gather the proof of negligence before negotiating for a settlement.
