Health and wellness are a top priority for many. That said, there are many different illnesses and diseases present in your everyday life. It can be hard to keep track of all the different ailments you can suffer but it is important to be aware of them so you can discover symptoms early.

Cancer is a leading cause of death among women today. In fact, it is the second leading cause of death in adults in the United States. Being aware of different types of cancer is a way to help catch cancer in its early stages to help you make a full recovery.

There are five major cancers that cause the most deaths among adult women today:

Lung cancer

Lung cancer is the most dangerous type of cancer among both men and women in the United States. Lung and Bronchus cancer account for 26 percent of cancer deaths annually.

Fortunately, it is an avoidable cancer. Lung cancer is generally caused by smoking and tobacco use. You can still develop lung cancer if you do not smoke, but staying away from tobacco is the best way to lower your risk.

Breast cancer

Breast cancer is the second leading cancer killer among women in the world. It is a significant cause of death among women. A rise in awareness about breast cancer has likely caused this number to decrease over the years, though it is still number two on the list.

Self-examinations and regular screenings are a crucial tool you can use in early detection of this type of cancer. Early detection increases survival rates of this deadly cancer.

Other types of dangerous cancer

The other three most dangerous types of cancer are:

  • Colon cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Ovarian cancer

These three cancers make up the next three most deadly types of cancer. They account for 21 percent of all cancer-related deaths per year.

The thought of being diagnosed with cancer is certainly scary. However, recognizing the types and symptoms of these cancers can increase your chances of recovery. Early detection is crucial in many of these types of cancers in order to increase your chance of survival. Be sure to educate yourself and be aware of the signs and symptoms.
